About the event
The second issue in the series Art and Humanism, Free-thinking images , focuses on the open-air sculptures of the Humanist Sculpture Park on the campus of the VUB. Since 1980, the artists represented have resonated not only as influential names in Belgian art, but also as freethinkers par excellence. The humanist message that connects the open-air sculptures in terms of content, however, is no coincidence; on the contrary, it formed the explicit reason for acquiring and placing the sculptures in question on the campus. In short, the collection functions as a visual reminder of the philosophy of the VUB, and at the same time it also questions it.
