The series of panel discussions called CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE, organized by OSB-VUB in collaboration with People and Science, explores five fundamental issues that are crucial for the future of our society: democracy, energy, genetics, pensions and the prison system. These discussions bring together experts and citizens to separate the main issues from the side issues and to think about 'the next step'.
The title CTRL-SHIFT-DELETE is a powerful metaphor that refers to the well-known key combination that a computer user uses to clear their browser history and make room for a fresh start. Just as a computer has a clean slate after this action, a society sometimes needs to clear its history in order to make future-oriented decisions. This image emphasizes that it is essential to let go of old thought patterns and outdated structures so that new insights and solutions can emerge. The metaphor underscores the need to determine what is essential for further growth and to tackle the challenges of today and tomorrow with new energy.
