From 28 November 2024, the exhibition 'Nom de Dieu' will open in Pilar (VUB), an initiative of huisvandeMens Brussels, in collaboration with deMens.nu and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Curated by Willem Elias and Kathleen Van Nuffel, the exhibition presents a collection of works by contemporary Belgian artists, including Félicien Rops, Wim Delvoye and Jan Van Imschoot. The exhibition explores the meaning and impact of blasphemy in Western culture, with a strong focus on Christianity and Catholicism.
Although blasphemy is punishable in some countries, elsewhere it is seen as a form of free speech. The exhibition invites reflection, dialogue and confrontation with the cultural heritage of more than 2000 years of Christian tradition.
